Sanding machine 697.
Italmeccanica Rollerwood machines offer two main applications. These uses depend strictly on the spindle brushes.First, operators can choose structuring and texturing. Wire or Tynex brushes easily abrade earlywood zones. Meanwhile, the dense latewood rings remain protruding. Consequently, the timber gains an authentic, rustic relief look. This finish remains extremely popular for engineered flooring, interior beams, and furniture.
Second, the machine performs inter-coat denibbing. Users install abrasive-filament brushes for sanding sealer-coated surfaces. Specifically, these tools flatten fibers rising after staining or basecoat application.
Furthermore, the flexible brushes safely penetrate deep into profile recesses. They quickly soften sharp edges.
Finally, they smooth surfaces without ever cutting through the delicate coating layer.
Principle of work
The workpiece (moulding, board, front) is placed on a conveyor belt or rollers that constantly push it through the machine. Inside the housing are rotating rollers with brushes that rotate at high speed.
MAN designation: Indicates the manual (manual) version of the height adjustment of the working elements or speed control. Operator adjusts the height of the unit depending on the thickness of the board via a mechanical wheel.
1Sanding machine 697 – Technical data:
Manufacturer and location: Italmeccanica s.r.l., Castiglione delle Stiviere (Mantova), Italy.
Machine type: ROLLERWOOD / MAN.
Year of manufacture: 1998.
Serial number: 20105.
Edge height: 130 mm.
Working width: 1100 mm.
Current consumption: 15 A.
Power supply: Three-phase, 380 V + zero neutral).
Main brush motor power: 1.1 KW (1.5 HP), speed 920 rpm.
Pneumatic supply: Requires a constant air pressure of 6 to 8 atmospheres (bar) from the compressor. Air is used here for pneumatic oscillation, stabilization of the pressure of the brushes on the wood or for the operation of safety systems.
Mass: 450 kg.
Used, imported from Italy.
It belongs to the category of lighter and more compact industrial machines. Easier to transport and manipulate compared to massive calibrators that weigh several tons each.
Advantages and tips in exploitation
Flexibility: Changing the brushes allows you to use the machine one day for roughing rustic beams, and the next day for fine sanding lacquered kitchen fronts.
Processing of profiled pieces: Due to the flexibility of the fibers on the brushes, this machine can also sand uneven surfaces (profiled moldings, beveled edges, engraved ornaments on interior doors), which is impossible to do with a regular belt sander.
Aspiration: As with any sander, dusting is mandatory, especially if the machine is used to remove raised paint fibers as this dust is extremely fine and harmful to health.
Transport system and drive
Narrow line conveyors: Unlike calibrating machines that have one wide rubber belt across the entire table, this machine uses two independent, narrow line conveyors (tracks/belts) made of aluminum profiles. This type of system is ideal for long and narrow pieces (mouldings, beams, joinery elements).
Independent motors-reducers: At the very beginning of the conveyor are two electric motors with worm reducers and an air pressure regulator. They ensure a constant and synchronized movement of material through the machine.
Main brush drive: On the right side of the blue hood is mounted the main, stronger electric motor that drives the shaft with the brushes inside the housing via transmission.
Ergonomics and safety
The blue-silver case has a transparent Plexiglas top. This allows the operator to visually monitor the operation of the brushes and the flow of wood. At the same time, it prevents dust and wood chips from flying into the workshop.
Modular chassis: The whole machine is placed on a stand made of aluminum structural profiles with feet. The feet can be adjusted in height, which allows for perfect leveling on an uneven workshop floor.
